Websites Should be simple

How to use the Menu Manager in the Reflex Content Management System

Every website contains at least one menu, which provides a basic structure to the site and helps visitors find their way around all the different pages.  The menus can usually be found either running across the top of the homepage or down the left hand side.

The Reflex Content Management System contains a Menu Manager tool which allows the user to edit and update the content of the menus.

Like all the other Reflex tools, the Menu Manager has many easy-to-use features to enable anyone to maintain and control their website.  The Menu Manager features:
•    A simple ‘Drag-and-Drop’ organisational function
•    Easily accessible menu lists – everything is visible
•    The ability to edit the names and titles of every menu item

These features are unique to the Reflex system and help to make it a simple yet extremely powerful content management system.  The Menu Manager tool within the Reflex system offers a range of benefits to the user, these include:
•    Having full control of the organisation of your site
•    Control the hierarchal structure of the site content so you can prioritise certain pages within the menus
•    Add and re-order menu items with ease
•    Manage content and structure of the sub-menus

Below is a short demonstration of how the menu manager works:

After selecting the ‘Menu Manager’ option from the main Reflex interface you will see the above screen.  Here you can simply select the menu you wish to update and the full contents of that menu will be displayed.

Highlighting a particular menu name will allow you to edit its name and title in the Menu Editor:

As this example demonstrates, it is extremely easy to edit the names and titles of the items within your menu.  It is also a very simple process to alter which pages are actually listed in any given menu.  This process employs a basic ‘Drag and Drop’ function to enable you to control the organisation and structure of your site:

As you can see from the main Menu Manager page, there is a list on the right hand side displaying all the pages of your site.  If you highlight the page by clicking on it you can then drag it across to the list of menu items.  Now just let go of the mouse button and that page will be displayed within the menu on your site.  It really is that simple!

You can also reorder the items within the menu using the ‘Drag and Drop’ method.  You will notice the ‘Order’ column to the right of the menu item list; this arranges the individual items within the menu in numerical order.  To alter the order you just need to select the individual item you wish to move and drag it up or down the list, depending on where you want it to be displayed.  When you are happy with the position simply let go of the mouse button and the item will now appear in its new position.

The Menu Manager within the Reflex Content Management System can also be used for websites with a more complicated page text structure.  If you have drop-down menus, for instance, these can be updated using the ‘Sub-Menu Manager’ tool.
